On Monday, August 31, 2020, Grand Master Keith Newton appointed and installed Right Worshipful Brother Michael L. McCandlish as Junior Grand Deacon, filling in a vacancy that existed in the grand lodge progressive line. Most Worshipful Brother Newton traveled to the McCandlish home in Lancaster, and with Mike’s family present and the Grand Lodge officers attending via Zoom, he installed RWB McCandlish with proper ceremony.
Freemasonry is a family legacy. Following his grandfather and father – both members of Lancaster Lodge – RWB McCandlish began his Masonic career in DeMolay International. He served the Fairfield Chapter as Master Councilor in 1980 and was also awarded Representative DeMolay that same year. In 2006, he was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason at Lancaster Lodge #57 and progressed through the line to serve as Worshipful Master in 2011. He received the DeMolay Legion of Honor in 2019.
Throughout his Masonic journey, RWB McCandlish has served our Ohio brethren with dignity. He served as 13th District Association President in 2013, District Education Officer from 2013 – 2015, and District Deputy Grand Master from 2017 – 2019. Additionally, he is a plural member of Rushville Lodge #211, where he currently serves as Senior Warden. He is also currently serving as the Captain of The Guard in Enoch Lodge of Perfection, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus.
Junior Grand Deacon McCandlish has lived his entire life in Lancaster Ohio, and has been married to his wife Becky for 31 years. They have two children: Valerie (28) and Connor (24). Mike is the Director of Purchasing for a large electrical contractor in Lancaster, Ohio, and Becky is a licensed insurance agent. In their spare time, they enjoy camping as often as possible, music, the company of great friends and being a part of the events and happenings in the community of Lancaster. They are members of Grace United Church of Christ.
We congratulate RWB McCandlish on his appointment and look forward to his leadership in the coming years.
