An Interview with Brother Bill Carter, Part 1

Join us for our Grand Master Interview Series Part 1: Looking Ahead, as we discuss what Most Worshipful Brother William M. Carter III is looking forward to this year. As the 169th Grand Master of Ohio Masons, Brother Carter is encouraging men this year to focus on Brotherhood, fellowship, and continuing our everlasting tradition.

Congratulations on becoming the new GM! What are you most looking forward to this year?

Thank you, so much! I am deeply honored to serve as Grand Master, and I’m truly looking forward to the journey ahead. This year, I am most excited to bring our Brothers together under the theme of “Be Legendary.” My goal is to inspire each Brother to look inward and seek out the highest potential within themselves—to connect with the ancient and profound teachings that define our Craft. I’m eager to see how we can work together to strengthen our Lodges, support our communities, and ultimately, create a lasting legacy in Ohio Masonry.

How does it feel to become Grand Master and lead Ohio Masonry?

Becoming Grand Master is both humbling and exhilarating. It is a rare privilege to guide our Fraternity and a responsibility I hold with profound reverence. Our Craft is built on timeless values, and leading Ohio Masonry allows me to honor our history while setting a vision for the future. Standing on the shoulders of all the Grand Masters before me, I feel deeply connected to the Brotherhood that has endured through the centuries, and I’m driven to continue that tradition with all the strength and dedication I can offer.

Tell us about your focus for the year. Why is this important to you?

This year, my focus is on helping Brothers reconnect with the transformative and esoteric aspects of Freemasonry. This focus is important to me because I believe the Craft offers answers to life’s greatest questions, and within our symbols and rituals lies a path to true self-discovery. By reconnecting with these teachings, we find purpose and meaning that goes beyond the Lodge room, bringing light not only to ourselves but to all those around us.

What from your personal and/or professional life will you bring to this leadership position?

From my own life, I bring a commitment to lifelong learning and a passion for meaningful connection. My professional background has taught me the importance of listening, of supporting others in their growth, and of always striving for excellence. In my personal journey, I’ve sought wisdom and insight from diverse sources, and I am dedicated to bringing that spirit of universality and genuine curiosity for wisdom’s sake to our Grand Lodge. I look forward to an incredible year of growth, unity, and inspiration as we work together to “Be Legendary” and carry the Sacred Flame forward.
