Ohio Masons are connected by the bonds of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. For a group of Brethren that bond extends to their shared love for motorcycles. The Ohio Grand Chapter of Widows Sons is a social group of Ohio Masons – men who give back, connect with other Brothers from around our state, and promote the motorcycle community with the principles of Freemasonry. Riding with Intention
The Widows Sons Masonic Riders Association is a group of Ohio Master Masons that have formed an organization of men who love Freemasonry and motorcycle riding. Through living the values of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth these men introduce Ohio Masonry and motorcycle riding to non-Masons across the state. Their goals:
- “Introduce the sport of motorcycle riding to our Masonic Brothers.
- Raise Masonic Awareness in the world of Motorcycling.
- Contribute to Charities and to the Relief of our Widows and Orphans.
- Support the Blue Lodge through regular attendance and assisting with or attending lodge events.”
The Logo
The Widows Sons are easily identifiable by their logo or patch that adorns the jackets and clothes they wear. Adopted by the Northern Jurisdiction in 2004 this logo is deep with Freemason symbology. The three-sided triangle represents the three degrees of our Craft: Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason. Inside the triangle lies the all-seeing eye, reminding the Ohio Widows Sons that they must act as leaders and mentors in their communities. The rising sun that sits upon the triangle represents the “sun that never sets our fraternity,” keeping our goals and connections in constant view. Its light connects Masons all over the globe leading them on their pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment. The wings on either side of the triangle serve as symbols of freedom and liberty and are a symbol often seen throughout the motorcycle community. The bottom of the logo reads, “Meet on the level & part on the square,” to remind its members that no matter what they are and always will be Ohio Freemasons. Above all, the Ohio Widows Sons wish to be accepted and viewed first and foremost as Masons. Like many symbols in Freemasonry the Widows Sons logo is a tribute to the deep history of our fraternity.
Charity
One of the major pillars of the Ohio Widows Sons is their interest in charity. The Widows Sons host charitable events every month, and sometimes on a weekly basis, to raise both money and awareness for local charitable efforts. Local chapter, 3-5-7, is hosting a charity ride in June to raise money to support the Portage County Sheriff’s Department in Ravenna, Ohio. Riding events like this often include a meal and invite members from the community like non-Mason women and children to join in on the event. The Widows Sons have also been known to donate proceeds from state-wide events to the Ohio Special Olympics; a charity event many Ohio Masons assist with each year.
How to Join
Interested in joining a local Ohio chapter of the Widows Sons or even starting your own chapter? Visit the Widows Sons website to locate a local chapter and contract a member to learn more. To form your own chapter of the Widows Sons all you’ll need is 5 Master Masons to conduct an organizational meeting to vote in officers and adopt a chapter name.
