Thank you for visiting the Grand Lodge of Ohio’s website. The Masons in Ohio are in virtually every community in Ohio. Our 108,000 members belong to over 500 lodges and the Grand Lodge of Ohio is the 2nd largest jurisdiction in the world. They include politicians, astronauts, police officers, firefighters, physicians, laborers and men of every walk of life, bound together by a sacred tie and having a deep sense of belonging to an organization much larger than themselves.
Former Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill said “All politics is local.” Similarly, all Masonry is local. Although the Grand Lodge grants charters to lodges and assures compliance with established regulations, most members are concerned with their local lodges.
Local lodges are the lifeblood of Freemasonry in Ohio. Lodges throughout Ohio support local events, march in parades, grant scholarships, sponsor Little League teams and raise money for the Ohio Masonic Communities, the Special Olympics and the Grand Lodge Charitable Foundation.
As Americans started the westward movement shortly after the forming of this Country, they built churches, schools and Masonic Lodges. Freemasonry has been a part of Ohio before Ohio became a State in 1803. Our Grand Lodge was formed shortly thereafter in 1808. Most of the early leaders in Ohio were active Freemasons.
I urge you to review this website, to ask questions and to learn more about Freemasonry. If you are interested in joining a Masonic Lodge, you need only contact the webmaster, and he will refer you to a Lodge in your area. It is a good time to learn about Masonry and about our members.
May God’s richest blessings continue to support you and your family.
Terry W. Posey
Grand Master of Masons in Ohio
